SCV Camp 246, 3rd Arkansas Infantry Davis, ad

The below ad appeared in the El Dorado News-Times, placed there by SCV Camp 246, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, on 3 June 2006. We think more camps should try to put ads in the paper for Gen. Lee and Jackson in January and Pres. Davis in June each year. We get a lot of calls on these ads and have gotten new members from the ads....

SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS CONDEMNS ANTIETAM KLAN RALLY

Columbia, TN - The Sons of Confederate Veterans today, again, strongly condemned the "rally" held on the sacred ground of Antietam (Sharpsburg) by the Ku Klux Klan, and the offensive comments by the KKK claiming a connection with Confederate soldiers.

"The modern hate group taking the name of Ku Klux Klan has no claim to Confederate heritage," said Denne Sweeney, Commander-in-Chief of the more than 30,000 member SCV, "and as the actual descendants of Confederate soldiers, and an organization which has been working to bring honor to Confederate veterans for 110 years, the Sons of Confederate Veterans is outraged."

The SCV issued condemnations of the rally weeks ago, and though largely ignored by the mainstream media, the members continue to express extreme dismay and sorrow over having sacred grounds violated by this intolerant "rally".

In addition, for several years now the National Parks Service has undergone a deliberate program of erasing from battlefields information that gives the Southern perspective of the war, or even simply relates the battlefield actions of Southern forces, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans has protested vigorously this unreasonable censure. "Now you have the National Parks Service on the one hand engaging in viewpoint discrimination against Southerners," said Sweeney, "but on the other hand they are promoting the extremism of the Ku Klux Klan and Nationalist Socialist Movement."

Instead of promoting extremism and censuring mainstream Southern historical information, the Sons of Confederate Veterans calls on the NPS renounce its hypocrisy by informing the Ku Klux Klan that sacred battlefields are not "free speech zones", and to return to its mission of telling the full and balanced story of American sacrifice on our battlefields.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans was founded in 1896 to perpetuate and preserve the honor of the Confederate soldier, sailor and marine.

SLRC presents Duty Case check to SCV

FORT WORTH, TX - At its meeting here on May 13, the Sons of Confederate Veterans General Executive Council accepted a check from the SLRC for the SCV's share of damages awarded in an out-of-court settlement in the Jacqueline Duty case.

To a standing ovation from those present, SLRC Chief Trial Counsel Kirk D. Lyons handed SCV Commander-in-Chief Denne A. Sweeney a check for $11,383.05. the percentage of the damages earmarked for the SCV in return for its having funded nearly all costs of bringing the suit. The SCV's return on the Duty case was more than half again as much as it realized from its parent case, Castorina v. Madison County School Board, which took up five years and an appeals process before ending in a precedent setting heritage victory.

Ms. Duty, now a college student, was barred from attending her senior prom on May 1, 2004, because she was wearing an evening dress patterned after the Confederate battle flag. She and her mother had worked for two years to complete the sequined, floor-length gown which has since become a Southern heritage icon. Suit was filed in December of 2004, with Kentucky attorney Earl-Ray Neal acting as local counsel. Neal and the SLRC had previously partnered in the Castorina case. The defendants' attorneys moved to settle out of court following depositions by the SLRC's expert witnesses early this year. The settlement agreement was finalized in March.
